 Pope Francis passed away on Easter Monday, April 21, 2025, at the age of 88, at his residence in the Vatican's Casa Santa Marta.  The Vatican confirmed that he died at 7:35 AM local time from a stroke, followed by irreversible heart failure.  Born Jorge Mario Bergoglio in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Pope Francis made history as the first Jesuit, the first Latin American, and the first non-European pope in over 1,200 years.
