Donald Trump's choice of Fox News anchor and Army National Guard veteran Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense has drawn criticism from House Democrats. The decision, according to Representative Dan Goldman (D-N.Y.), "very disturbed" him, citing Hegseth's lack of substantial leadership experience and policymaking expertise. Although Hegseth is well-known for his conservative views and Fox News role, his nomination deviates from the norm for the job, which caused both parties to react differently on Capitol Hill.

The Pentagon is shocked and deeply divided by Donald Trump's choice of Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense. Hegseth, a former Army National Guard officer and Fox News host, does not have the kind of traditional leadership experience needed for the position. His credentials have been questioned by several Senate Republicans, who swiftly defended the appointment by highlighting his military experience and support for Trump's "America First" agenda. There are still questions about Hegseth's readiness to handle the Department of Defense's complexity.
When Pete Hegseth made contentious remarks about women serving in combat situations, Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) responded negatively. Hegseth's comments, which cast doubt on women's aptitude for these positions, were criticized for coming across as archaic and disrespectful. Blumenthal underlined that the country has made progress in acknowledging the abilities and contributions of women in the military. He emphasized that Hegseth's opinions seem out of step with modern military standards and the advancements made over the years, and that the integration of women into all facets of service is a settled issue in the military.
