AI-designed DNA switches

 Scientists from Jackson Laboratory, MIT's Broad Institute, and Yale have created artificial intelligence (AI)-designed DNA switches that can precisely turn genes on or off in particular cell types, such as blood, liver, or brain cells, without affecting other organs. With this method, artificial DNA sequences known as cis-regulatory elements (CREs) that exclusively activate genes in specific tissues are created using machine learning. This discovery may open the door to targeted therapies, which would provide researchers and medical professionals exact control over gene expression for research and therapy, potentially revolutionising the use of genetic medicine in the future.
