Male mosquitoes sometimes suck, too
Although male mosquitoes do "suck" in a different way—they ingest nectar and plant liquids instead of blood—it is a popular misconception that only female mosquitoes feed on blood.
Male mosquitoes are asexual and do not require blood meals for reproduction.
To obtain the energy required for their life, they instead consume sugar sources found in plants.
Male mosquitoes do not need the blood protein that females do in order to grow their eggs, which is a major factor in this difference.
It's interesting to note that, particularly early in their life cycles, nectar attracts both male and female mosquitoes.
To maintain their reproductive process, only females turn to blood-seeking.
