 Drake Hogestyn is an American actor best known for his long-running role as John Black on the popular daytime soap opera "Days of Our Lives." He joined the show in 1986 and has since become one of the most recognizable and beloved characters in soap opera history. 

Originally cast as Roman Brady, it was later revealed that his character was actually John Black, a man with a mysterious and complex past. His portrayal has made him a fan favorite for decades.


Before his acting career, Hogestyn pursued professional baseball and was drafted by the New York Yankees in 1976. However, an injury led him to shift his focus to acting, where he found success on television.


In addition to his work on Days of Our Lives, Hogestyn has appeared in various other TV shows and has become an enduring figure in the soap opera world, admired for his charisma and long-term commitment to his iconic role.

Drake Hogestyn, the beloved actor best known for his portrayal of John Black on Days of Our Lives, passed away on September 28, 2024, at the age of 70. He died following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, just one day before his 71st birthday.

 His family shared the heartbreaking news in a statement posted on social media, honoring his legacy and resilience during his fight with the illness. 

Hogestyn was a key figure on Days of Our Lives for nearly 40 years, leaving an indelible mark on the soap opera world .
