YouTube recently removed a large number of songs from its platform, including tracks by Adele, Nirvana, Green Day, and Kendrick Lamar, due to a licensing dispute with SESAC, a performing rights organization.
The disagreement stems from the failure to renew a licensing agreement between YouTube and SESAC, which manages the rights to over 1.5 million songs.
As a result, users in the U.S. are unable to access certain tracks, receiving error messages indicating that the content is unavailable due to SESAC rights issues.
While the dispute is ongoing, YouTube has stated that they are actively negotiating with SESAC to resolve the matter and restore the affected content.
This is not the first time such disputes have led to music being temporarily removed from streaming platforms.
