 Ballad Health confirmed that all individuals stranded on the roof of Unicoi County Hospital in Erwin, Tennessee, due to severe flooding from Hurricane Helene, have been safely rescued. 

A coordinated effort involving helicopters from the Tennessee National Guard and the Highlands Emergency Air Rescue & Transport (HEART) team successfully airlifted over 50 patients and staff members to safety.

 The rescue operation was complicated by high winds and rapidly rising floodwaters, which had surrounded the hospital and made ground-based evacuations impossible. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the operation.

The rising waters from the Nolichucky River made it impossible for ambulances or boats to reach the facility. After multiple rescue attempts were delayed by high winds, helicopters from the Virginia State Police and the Tennessee National Guard were finally able to airlift all 54 people to safety. 

Thankfully, there were no injuries during the rescue. The hospital will remain closed until the floodwaters recede and damage assessments can be made.
